I started off today with the creation of our character, Bobby! And since our artist is grounded (remember, we’re teenagers) I had to make the art myself.

Isn’t he cute? A little blurry, but that's just the sizing up on the blog. I made the art with Piskel and made the color palette with a random generator called Coolors. What did Coolers spit back? This. [Insert Image Here]. Nice, a Candyland theme. I can make it work. With the palette generated I made art for the character, platforms, and spikes, pretty sure I forgot to mention this last time, I made a spiked platform that kills you whenever you hit it.

That’s when I remembered something. I made platforms that go down, what would stop people from riding it all the way down to the end of the level? Nothing. So I made a stopper that stops the platforms from moving when interacted with, and being as stupid as I am I tried to code my way through, then a lightbulb hit me, no, it didn’t light up, it hit me. Collision Masks. Collision Masks. I’m not even gonna ask why I didn’t think of it sooner, because we both know the answer, and what is that? I’m not the sharpest knife in the drawer. And you wanna know what? It worked perfectly. Literally, perfectly. Was I mad? A little, yeah, but it worked, kinda. We’ll get to the ‘kinda’ in a second. So going through playtesting, making sure everything looked okay. I noticed I could fly away to the left and right… Didn’t I program that to kill me? Yes, yes I did. Did it work? No. So after rewriting code and it not working I came to the simple solution of this: make the edges StaticBodies. Do they kill you? No, do they keep you from flying away into the infinite abyss? Yes. So after fixing that the only logical solution was to make it go down further. That’s when I ran into the problem. The platforms that move up run into the stopper, making them all clump up at the top of the part. Find out how I fix this tomorrow, on Day 3. I’d do it tonight but it’s quarter-past midnight and I’m ready for sleepy time. Goodnight friends! I will see you on Day 3!
